Abstract

Professor Stephen AcklandMMBS, FRACP, GAICD. Current major positions: Senior Staff Specialist in Medical Oncology, Calvary Mater Newcastle hospital; Professor, Faculty of Health and Medicine, University of Newcastle; Director, Hunter Cancer Research Alliance; Director, AGITG; Editorin-Chief, Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology. Previous positions include Chair of MOGA, President of COSA, Chair of Board of ANZ Breast Cancer Trials. His research profile is in GI and breast cancer, in cancer pharmacogenomics and pharmacokinetics. As Director of HCRA with >300 cancer researcher members, he makes a substantial contribution via Cancer Institute NSW to statewide strategies for cancer research and its implementation into the healthcare system. He has multiple peer review and discipline/community contributions. He has developed and promoted a facility for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of mitotane for adrenocortical cancer, with now an average five to six samples per week tested. He is currently undertaking a study to refine TDM so that therapeutic plasma levels are reached quickly.
