Abstract

Care offered to preterm infants varies worldwide, ranging from less than essential lifesaving care to highly technological and neuroprotective care oriented towards survival with optimal outcomes. In high-income countries, developmental care has been implemented to some extent as standard care in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and guidelines for its optimal implementation have been published (1).
