Additional considerations beyond efficacy for lithium in pediatric bipolar disorder.
Abstract
We read the timely review by Duffy and colleagues1 that focused on available evidence from randomized trials on efficacy and tolerability of lithium in the treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes in pediatric bipolar disorder. We appreciate the value of their work in highlighting specific clinical trials particularly in light of the recent FDA approval of lithium as an acute and maintenance monotherapy in children 7 years of age and older with bipolar I disorder.
