Telemental Health via Videoconferencing: A promising method for improving access to evidence-based mental health care for bipolar disorder.
Abstract
Over a quarter of US disability is attributable to untreated or inadequately treated mental health conditions (Vos et\xa0al., 2012). Accessing quality mental health care is especially challenging in rural areas, where it can be difficult to attract and maintain specialty mental health providers. Telemental health delivered via videoconferencing (TMH-V), which provides mental health services to patients in real time, has enormous potential to address this issue by connecting clinicians to patients in remote locations. This modality has been used, for example, to provide evidence-based mental health care for US military veterans with bipolar disorder (Bauer et\xa0al., 2016). This article is protected by copyright.
