Thrombocytosis in bipolar disorder: a case report.

Abstract

Essential thrombocytosis is a haematological disease caused by abnormal megakaryocyte proliferation that could lead to a worsening of mood symptoms. We describe a woman with essential thrombocytosis comorbid with bipolar disorder. The initiation of therapy with hydroxy-oncocarbide improved psychiatric symptoms. The presence of medical conditions in psychiatric presentations should always be considered.
