Presence of anti‐BP180 and anti‐BP230 in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with bullous pemphigoid and neurological disease: is there any intrathecal synthesis?

Abstract

The association between bullous pemphigoïd (BP) and several neurologic diseases (ND) - cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases - is well known and documented by several epidemiologic studies while a pathophysiology link is still undetermined. Auto-antibodies (Ab) directed against BP180 are more frequently found in patients with dementia with a titer-severity correlation, independently of any skin disease. We formulated the hypothesis of a primary anti-neuronal auto-immunity in BP, with secondary skin involvement. We have searched for intrathecal synthesis (ITS) of BP Ab in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with BP and ND. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
