Polydioxanone sheet as a rigid framework in skull‐base repair: Our experience in thirteen patients

Abstract

1.Polydiaxanone (PDS) sheet is a viable and safe option as a rigid reinforcement material with nasoseptal flap (NSF) for skull-base defect following Transsphenoidal Hypophysectomy (TH). 2.PDS sheet is flexible and can be contoured into shape, making it ideal for endoscopic endonasal skull-base repair using single-hand instrumentation. 3.PDS s osteoconductive properties could rebuild the natural mucosa-bone barrier of the defect created following TH. 4.PDS sheet is absorbable and does not incur foreign body inflammatory process from the surrounding area. 5.The perforated PDS sheet could promote healing process by avoiding microvascular compromise secondary to pressure induce micro-ischaemia.
