A standardized approach to laparoscopic panprocto‐colectomy and ileo‐anal pouch surgery for ulcerative colitis – a video vignette

Abstract

Surgical treatment for ulcerative colitis has always been a challenge for the surgeons {1-3}. An open approach for patients with Ulcerative colitis is commonly used {4} but with the advances in laparoscopy, minimally invasive pouch surgery has evolved as better option in terms of shorter hospital stay, reduced requirement for analgesia and early return to work {5-8}. we present a total laparoscopic technique with complete mobilization of the colon and rectum which involves intraoperative ligation and division of all major vessels with colonic and rectal mobilization in true anatomical surgical planes. Standardized approach to this surgery results in predictable clinical outcomes and is easy to teach. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
