Motoric cognitive risk syndrome: Next steps

Abstract

Motoric Cognitive Risk syndrome (MCR) is a pre-dementia syndrome characterized by self-reported cognitive complaints and slow gait, which is associated with increased risk of developing dementia.[1] MCR diagnosis does not require cognitive testing, laboratory investigations or neuroimaging, enhancing its clinical utility to identify dementia at-risk individuals in various clinical and community settings.[1] Since its original description in 2013,[2] the epidemiology of MCR has been described in multiple countries and populations.[3, 4] In this issue of the journal, two new reports from Italy and China add to the growing body of knowledge regarding this pre-dementia syndrome.
