Periumbilical neuropathic pruritus in an infant: Presentation of a spinal intramedullary neoplasm.
Abstract
Chronic pruritus (CP) is a highly prevalent condition, which affects patients of all ages including infants. Among the broad variety of underlying etiology, benign and malignant neoplasms may initially manifest with localized pruritus1 and thus a comprehensive work-up is indicated for all patients with CP. We report on a 3-year-old female with history of localized pruritus at the periumbilical region since the age of six months. No skin alterations were detected in the affected area (Fig. 1a).
