Bilateral linear red lines on the calves in an infant

Abstract

A 9‐week‐old baby girl was referred to dermatology with a 1‐week history of bilateral linear red markings on the posterior calves. The lesions were asymptomatic, and the parent s mother denied any prior trauma to the area. The baby was born at 38 weeks of gestation by normal vaginal delivery and was developing normally. Due to paren‐ tal concern, the patient was brought to the emergency department where nonaccidental injury was initially suspected. After discussion with the appropriate liaison team, nonaccidental injury was refuted. However, no diagnosis was made, so the patient was referred to dermatology. On examination, there were bilateral well‐demarcated blanching curvilinear erythematous patches on the posterior calves. (Figure 1). There was no superficial scale. On dermoscopy, there was no evi‐ dence of epidermal trauma or hemorrhage.
