Demographic characteristics, clinical features, and optimal management of hospitalized patients with staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome

Abstract

Optimal management of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) has not been established. Clindamycin may benefit patients via inhibition of ribosomal toxin production, but resistance patterns suggest penicillinaseā€resistant penicillins or cephalosporins should be the first line. Our goal was to describe demographic and clinical characteristics of SSSS patients at our institution, delineate bacterial resistance patterns, and examine outcomes of varying therapeutic strategies in SSSS.
