Structure and Formation of a Capsule around the Acanthocephalan Corynosoma strumosum (Rudolphi, 1802) Lühe, 1904 in the Natural Paratenic Host Hadropareia middendorffii Schmidt, 1904. Part 1. Structure of the Capsule from Naturally Invaded Fish
Abstract
Abstract The ultrastructure of the surface part of the tegument of the acanthocephalan Corynosoma strumosum and the surrounding capsule in the fish Hadropareia middendorffii have been studied. A thick layer of glycocalyx is found on the surface of the acanthocephalans’ tegument supposedly protecting them from the cellular response of the host. The main cellular elements of the capsule are represented by fibroblasts and leucocytes, suggesting that it is of the leucocytal type. No essential differences in the capsule structure located in different organs of the fish were revealed.
