Adsorption of Alizarin Red onto Carbon Black
Abstract
The ability of carbon black samples of grades N115, N339, and OMCARB S820 to adsorb Alizarin Red S was studied. The physicochemical properties (textural characteristics, elemental composition, qualitative composition of oxygen-containing groups) of the initial carbon black samples were studied. The adsorption isotherms of Alizarin Red S on carbon black samples in the examined concentration range at рН 2 are described by the Henry equation; the Henry constants were calculated. The use of Alizarin Red S as a carbon black modifier allows the content of oxygen-containing groups on its surface to be increased. This approach can be used for developing new pigments based on carbon black.
