Morphology of Porous CACO3 Vaterites as Components of Target Drug Delivery Systems in Rat Muscle Tissue
Abstract
Abstract The present work is devoted to the studies of behavior of porous spherical calcium carbonate vaterites (СаСО 3 ) used as components of target drug delivery systems. The samples were implanted into rat muscle tissue and investigated in 3 days, 1, 2, 4 and 12 weeks after operation. It was demonstrated that structural transformation and bioresorption of the implanted carriers occurred over time. In 3 days after implantation, spherical structures rearranged to form needle-like objects, which underwent complete bioresorption during the following two weeks. No pathogenic impact of the samples on the surrounding tissues was revealed, which confirms safety of СаСО 3 vaterites; thus, vaterites can be recommended for further studies as components of target drug delivery systems.
