Challenging the Spatial Consciousness of a Psychoanalytically inspired Agent through a Use Case

Abstract

The science of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made considerable progress in recent decades. However, considerable weaknesses are still evident where complex processes need to be executed. As an alternative approach, we study a functional top-down model inspired by the findings of psychoanalysis. This model has recently been extended to include functions of location awareness and navigation. The purpose of this paper is to verify the functionality added to the psychoanalytically inspired agents by means of a simulation. To this end, we start from a psychoanalytically formulated use case. The narrative is examined for its main challenges and translated and subsequently implemented in a technical simulation environment. Results of the simulations are discussed and interpreted with respect to the original psychoanalytically formulated use case.
