Reviewing the van Hiele Model and Metacognition on Geometric Thinking Development

 
 
 
 
 
 

Abstract


Geometric thinking is the ability to think about the relationship between attributes of geometrical shape. Meanwhile, metacognition is the ability to think about thinking. The intervention of the van Hiele model in learning geometry has been practiced as well as metacognition. However, studies on the van Hiele model and metacognition on geometric thinking are still under-researched. This systematic review study aims to review the articles regarding the van Hiele model and metacognition for geometric thinking development. The keywords used related to the van Hiele model, metacognition, and geometric thinking was carried out through internet search engines. Several existing articles had been surveyed from 1995 to 2020. The result showed that most articles reviewed indicated the development of geometric thinking by using the van Hiele model and metacognition. It also seems that the potential of application of the van Hiele model and metacognition can strengthen the students’ geometric thinking development.
