The correlation between metacognitive skills and scientific attitudes towards the retention of male and female students in South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Abstract

To date, there have not been many kinds of research investigating the multiple correlation between metacognitive skills and scientific attitudes of male and female students. Such research needs to be investigated further because of the multiple correlation between the predictor variables, and the criterion variables are stronger and more real than single correlational research. This research is quantitative correlational research, which investigates the correlation between metacognitive skills and scientific attitudes towards the retention of male and female students in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The research sample was biology education students in the second semester, with 104 students consisting of 47 males and 57 females. The instruments used for the data collection in this research were the instruments for measuring metacognitive skills, scientific attitudes, and retention. The research results indicate that the value of the simultaneous contribution of metacognitive skills and scientific attitudes towards female students retention is more excellent than that of male students. The effective contributions of metacognitive skills and scientific attitude towards male students retention are 3.33% and 24.67%, respectively. The effective contributions of metacognitive skills and scientific attitudes towards female students retention are 14.5% and 17.2%, respectively.
