School Nursing Research Priorities

 

Abstract


In my first weeks as the editor of The Journal of School Nursing, I have had the privilege of reading and reviewing exciting research studies and quality improvement projects that have the potential to significantly improve student outcomes. At the same time, I read many manuscripts that describe research and scholarly projects that do not add to school nursing science. School nursing is fortunate to have dedicated and accomplished researchers who are devoting their careers to building the knowledge and evidence for practice. Many others are embarking on their first scholarly endeavor. No matter how limited, research and program evaluations require valuable time, materials, and internal and external partners. Novice investigators or new clinical implementation leaders can invest those limited resources into building on the science that supports student health. Every year, the National Association of School Nurses publishes research priorities for school nursing. The 2020– 2021 NASN Research Priorities (2020) are:
