Abstract

Introduction and Objective: Different scores have been developed to predict readmission or death in patients with COPD like BODE, ADO and CODEX score. The PEARL score is superior to all other prediction tools. The five variables included in the PEARL score were: previous admissions (P), dyspnea (eMRC), age(A), right-heart failure(R) and left-sided heart failure (L). The risk of readmission or death is associated with high PEARL score. The aim of this work is to apply the PEARL score in patients with at least 2 previous admissions in the last year for acute COPD exacerbation and mortality prediction. Methods: We included 131 patients with previous COPD according to the ATS-ERS 2005 guidelines, with two or more hospital admissions for severe COPD exacerbation from january 2016 to june 2018. Results: Sociodemographic and clinical data are shown in table 1. PEARL score in the study population is shown in Table 2. Conclusions: In our patient´s cohort, the PEARL score could identify patients with greater risk of death.
