ASO Author Reflections: Total Thyroidectomy Versus Lobectomy for Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Abstract
Until the last decade, total thyroidectomy (TT) was the primary surgical treatment option for all differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs) larger than 1 cm with or without evidence of locoregional or distant metastases. In recent years, an individualized risk-based approach for the treatment of DTCs, focused primarily on a more conservative management, has been recommended by guidelines. according to studies that did not confirm advantages of TT over lobectomy (LT) but demonstrated similar clinical outcomes for properly selected patients.
