Laparoscopic Enucleation of a Deep Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Pancreatic Head Avoiding Pancreatoduodenectomy
Abstract
Enucleation (EN) is indicated for small (\\ 2 cm), nonfunctional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NF-PNETs) situated 1–2 mm from the Wirsung duct. Compared with peripheral lesions, ENs for deeply located cephalic lesions are challenging and are usually performed by the open approach, however pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) can be discussed. Nonetheless, with the widespread use of laparoscopic PD, surgeons become more familiar with dissection on the pancreatic head and these ENs can be achieved laparoscopically in experienced centers and in selected patients.
