ASO Author Reflections: Is Wedge Resection Optimal for Octogenarians with Early-Stage Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Compared with Lobectomy/Segmentectomy?
Abstract
Anatomical resection including segmentectomy and lobectomy would be considered a standard treatment for patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) if the results of the ongoing, prospective, randomized Japanese Clinical Oncology Group 0802/West Japan Oncology Group 4607L (JCOG0802/WJOG4607L) and Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) 140503 trials were positive. This treatment strategy is the same for patients aged C 80 and\\ 80 years. However, patients are assumed to be at higher risk for anatomical resection if aged C 80 years. Thus, whether anatomical or wedge resection would be more appropriate for populations aged C 80 years has remained undetermined.
