ASO Visual Abstract: Two-Stage Versus One-Stage Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy: Timing of Surgery Prevents Nipple Loss
Abstract
Devascularization of the nipple–areola complex (NAC) prior to definitive nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) enhances blood flow to the mastectomy flap skin and NAC. Ischemic events following two-stage NSM compared with one-stage NSM are fewer, with no evidence of nipple loss. These benefits are further optimized when the interval between surgeries in the two-stage group is greater than 20 days (https://doi.org/10.1245/s10434-021-10456-6).
