STUDENTI INTERNAZIONALI INCOMING E CONOSCENZA DELLA LINGUA ITALIANA: RESOCONTO DI UN’ESPERIENZA DI ACCOGLIENZA E VALUTAZIONE

Abstract

Dall’a.a. 2014/2015 anche l’Universita di Verona e tenuta a somministrare una prova di italiano agli studenti stranieri/internazionali immatricolandi ai corsi di laurea e dottorato al fine di certificarne le conoscenze linguistiche. Inizialmente tale obbligo era stato ottemperato attraverso la somministrazione del placement test regolarmente previsto per gli studenti stranieri che intendono frequentare i corsi d’italiano offerti dal Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo, ma tale soluzione si e rivelata inadeguata da un punto di vista sia affettivo sia docimologico sia disciplinare. Per questa ragione, il Centro Linguistico, unitamente ai rappresentanti delle quattro macro-aree di studio dell’Universita di Verona, ha sostenuto la creazione di una prova di valutazione ad hoc basata su: 1) verifica delle sole abilita ricettive; 2) taratura sul livello B1+ del QCER. Nella selezione dei testi si sono tenuti in considerazione i seguenti fattori: lunghezza, lessico utilizzato in ragione del livello target individuato e delle aree specialistiche di appartenenza, densita dell’informazione e ridondanza, presenza di elementi cotestuali, autenticita dei testi ed eventuali margini di adattamento; 3) differenziazione dei testi pivot (scritti e video) in base all’area disciplinare di immatricolazione, viste le diverse caratteristiche lessicali, morfosintattiche e testuali della lingua accademica impiegata da ciascuna area; 4) costruzione di una procedura di somministrazione che preveda anche una fase preliminare di familiarizzazione con la prova e un momento conclusivo di restituzione e orientamento; 5) validazione della prova attraverso la somministrazione a campioni di studenti di livello B1 e B2 in uscita frequentanti i corsi di italiano L2 del CLA durante l’a.a. precedente a quello della somministrazione effettiva della prova.\xa0Incoming international students and knowledge of the Italian language: an experience of reception and evaluation\xa0Starting from the 2014/2015 academic year, the University of Verona requires foreign/international students enrolled in degree and doctorate courses to take a test of Italian to in order to certify their language skills. Initially, this obligation was fulfilled through the administration of the placement test provided for foreign students who intended to attend the Italian courses offered by the University Language Centre, but this solution proved inadequate from affective, docimological and disciplinary points of view. For this reason, the Language Centre, together with the representatives of the four macro-areas of study of the University of Verona, supported the creation of an ad hoc evaluation test based on: 1) verification of receptive skills only; 2) calibration on the B1+ level of the CEFR. The following factors were taken into consideration in the selection of the texts: 3) differentiation of pivot texts (written and video) according to the subject area of enrolment, given the different lexical, morpho-syntactic and textual characteristics of the academic language used by each area; 4) construction of an administration procedure that also included a preliminary phase of familiarization with the test and a final moment of feedback and orientation; 5) validation of the test through administration to samples of outgoing B1 and B2 level students attending the Italian L2 courses at the CLA during the year prior to the actual administration of the test.
