Fundamental Limits on Imaging the Orientational Dynamics of Dipole-Like Emitters

Abstract

Photon shot noise causes unavoidable bias in estimating the rotational motions of fluorescent molecules. We quantify the bias of common 2D and 3D methods for imaging orientation, showing that they perceive the same 3D motion differently.
