RNDr. Kvetoslava Dvořáková passed away

Abstract

On October 23, 2019, RNDr. Kvetoslava Dvořáková, 61, passed away after a long and serious illness. All authors of our journal Mathematica Slovaca came across with her name during the years 1992–2017 because Dr. Dvořáková was responsible for the quality of all their papers published in that period in our Journal. Kvetka, as we called Dr. Dvořáková, was born in Bratislava on February 17, 1958, as an only child to an intellectual family. Her father, Květoslav Dvořák, was a philosopher at the Faculty of Electro Engineering of the Slovak Technical University. Her aunt, Janka Guzová, was in the fifties and sixties a very famous singer of Slovak folk songs mainly from the region of the Eastern Slovakia (after the Soviet invasion, she emigrated to the USA). Kvetka had a talent for painting, music, and for mathematics. Her passion for mathematics won and after finishing the Secondary School Vazovova, 1977, she started to study mathematics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (the predecessor of the today’s Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics) of the Comenius University in Bratislava. She was studying mathematical analysis, and her master’s thesis supervisor was Prof. RNDr. Jaroslav Smı́tal, DrSc. After completing her studies in 1982, she was an assistant teacher at the Department of Mathematics of the Engineering Faculty of the Slovak Technical University. In 1982 she defended her rigorous thesis and she received the academic title RNDr. In 1986 she joined the Institute of Mathematics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Here she started to collaborate with Prof. RNDr. L. Mǐśık, DrSc. In 1992, she became a technical editor of our journal Mathematica Slovaca. Thanks to her fine art sense and mathematical abilities, our journal achieved a very high level from a technical aspect. At that time we had already been using LaTeX in preparing our journal which also greatly improved the quality. Kvetka was a real perfectionist. She was able even to control the articles from the mathematical point of view. Many authors were surprised and delighted to recognize that she was able to improve their articles. In 2018, she retired and during her activity as a technical editor, she was in active contact with all corresponding authors of Mathematica Slovaca. Hundreds and hundreds articles passed under her careful eyes. Kvetka, all collaborators, authors and readers of Mathematica Slovaca are grateful for your outstanding work you did for our journal. We will remember your kindness and willingness to help every author. Thanks for everything.
