De la capacité d’absorption des cadres intermédiaires et de leurs employés à l’engagement dans la mise en place de nouvelles routines de travail

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to present a theoretical reflection on the concept of project absorption capacity and the role of management and employee commitment in establishing work routines. The problem is generally to realize projects simultaneously, that can create additional pressure on employees regarding available resources. The development of a theoretical framework, emphasizing the request for project realization, absorption capacity, routines and commitment, leads to the proposal of a three-stage conceptual framework. The first stage represents the project at its initiation, that is when the project is added to the work request and it challenges the absorption capacity of the employees. The second stage specifically concerns the absorption capacity as a resource, that is, the acquisition, assimilation, transformation and use of knowledge to implement new work routines, as planned in the project. The third and final stage highlights the relationship between absorption capacity and engagement. Finally, this theoretical approach attempts to demonstrate that examining the project absorption capacity reveals a significant theoretical originality and that deepening the concepts of commitment and work routines pushes the limits of research in project management. In addition, exploring the potential effects of better absorption capacity on project success addresses a real problem facing many organizations from different business sectors.
