Abstract

Background: Current therapies for the treatment of acute diarrhea in children focus primarily on oral rehydration therapy. However, this does not shorten the duration of diarrheal episodes, nor fasten healing of inflamed intestinal mucosa. Nutritional-based interventions offer a novel therapeutic alternative for acute diarrhea.
