Learning by Simulation: A Valuable Tool for Nursing and Midwifery Education

 

Abstract


Simulation method of teaching\xa0 prepare students for clinical practicums by providing\xa0 a simulated hospital-like ward environments in which\xa0 the tutors demonstrate and students are able to practice repeated skills under controlled and safe environment. The simulation and skills support excellent educational mission by creating opportunity for advanced teaching and learning using simulators as an educational special strategy.\xa0 Despite international recommendations to include simulation in nursing and midwifery education and evidence of its benefits, many institutions in Nigeria do not integrate simulation into their teaching and learning process. Reasons for this is unknown and calls for scientific investigations. This review set to highlight the uncommon value of simulation in clinical education.
