Abstract

Introduction: Despite the scientifically recognized benefits of breastfeeding, early weaning is still a reality, being related to multifactorial causes, including breast problems, which can hinder or even interrupt this process. Objective:\xa0to estimate the prevalence of breast pain and its associated factors in lactating women attended at a Human Milk Bank.\xa0Materials and methods:\xa0cross-sectional study based on secondary data from the register of specialized appointments that occurred between January of 2017 and December of 2018, at the Human Milk Bank of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Maranhao (HUUFMA). The data were collected between the months of September and November of 2019, using a form, reproducing it as information from the attendance files, generating a table later in Microsoft Excel, analyzed by the Stata version 14 statistics program. Pearson Qui-square test was used, with a significance level equal to <0.05. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (REC) via Plataforma Brasil, under number 16782719.8.0000.5086.\xa0Results:\xa0sociodemographic and obstetric variables of lactating women were analyzed. The prevalence of self-reported breast pain was noticed in 20.7% of the cases. There was a statistically significant association between the variables marital status and mode of delivery .\xa0Conclusion:\xa0Despite the low prevalence of this symptom, pregnant women should be advised to avoid it. It was revealed the absence of these guidelines in prenatal care, especially in private health services, where there are no protocols for nursing care. \nHow to cite this article: Penha, Jaiza Sousa; Rabelo, Poliana Pereira Costa; Soares, Liane Batista da Cruz; Simas, Waleska Lima Alves; Oliveira, Bruno Luciano Carneiro Alves de; Pinheiro, Feliciana Santos. \xa0Dolor mamario en madres lactantes: prevalencia y factores asociados.
