Liver function and serum amylase alterations following laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy and its significance
Abstract
Gall stone disease is one of the commonest gastrointestinal tract diseases requiring surgical interventions. Today laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has replaced the traditional open cholecystectomy (OC), and LC has become the gold standard for management of gall stone disease. Besides having many advantages LC has a few drawbacks mainly due to CO2 pneumoperitoneum. Trials show that CO2 pneumoperitoneum leads to compromised intra-abdominal blood flow which causes reduction in portal venous and, hepatic artery flow and altered liver function transaminases.
