La mujer romana y la expiación de los andróginos

 

Abstract


RESUMEN El nacimiento en la Antigua Roma de ninos con rasgos sexuales masculinos y femeninos a la vez, los llamados androginos o hermafroditas, eran considerados como un gravisimo prodigio. Su expiacion, necesaria para el restablecimiento de las buenas relaciones entre los hombres y los dioses, quedo en manos exclusivamente de mujeres: ancianas, matronas y virgines. PALABRAS CLAVE: Antigua Roma, Matrona, prodigio, expiacion, androgino ABSTRACT The birth in ancient Rome of children with both male and female sexual features, so-called androgynes or hermaphrodites, was regarded as a an extraordinary phenomenon. Their expiation, necessary for the restoration of good relations between men and gods, remained exclusively in the hands of women: old women, midwives and virgines.
