Igualdad de género: riesgos de la invisibilidad en tiempos del COVID-19.

Abstract

This article analyzes the possible negative effects of the covid-19 pandemic on the global commitment towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (sdgs), with special interest in sdg 5 (Gender equality) and its integration with sdg 8 (Decent work and economic growth). To do this, current situations that may exacerbate the “invisibility of women” in public policy decision-making, due to their underrepresentation in senior management positions, are addressed, as well as situations occurred during previous epidemics, e.g. Ebola and Zika, to emphasize the feasibility of consequences such as increased employment and wage inequality, social injustice, and domestic violence. However, the role of female leaders who have deployed a satisfactory response to the emergency is also highlighted, which reveals a hopeful scenario for current and future generations.
