EFFECT OF AXIAL HEAT CONDUCTION ON THE TEMPERATURE FIELD OF THE CONDUCTOR IN THE DC CIRCUIT

Abstract

The non-stationary problem of heating a cylinder of finite length by an electric current has been posed and solved. The cylinder is in adiabatic conditions and there is an axial heat flow to the fixed ends of the cylinder. The electrical resistivity of the material of the cylinder depends on the temperature. Numerical analysis of the mathematical model showed the existence of a limiting current, which leads to an avalanche-like increase in temperature and a “thermal explosion” of the conductor.
