The Impact of Corona Pandemic on Consumer’s Food Consumption – Vulnerability of Households with Children and Income Losses
Abstract
This study clearly shows that the corona pandemic strongly influences the dietary habits of the consumer. Above all, more food is consumed and more convenience products such as ready-meals and canned goods with longer shelf-lives are purchased. The consumption of alcohol and confectionery has also increased. In turn, the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables has decreased. It is clear that, in particular, families affected financially by the pandemic represent a vulnerable group. With the increasing duration of the pandemic, repeated lockdowns and the corona-related closure of schools and child day-care facilities, health implications may be expected in the medium to long term, especially for this group of the population.
