Abstract


Excessive alcohol consumption can be caused by several factors, including psychological factors such as sexual uncertainty, this focuses on beliefs and sexual values. Another factor is the body image perception, it is defined as the mental image of the body. Objective: To determine the influence of sexual uncertainty and body image on the alcohol consumption dependence in nursing students. Methodology: Predictive-correlational study, the sample was composed of 182 students, the sampling was via online by convenience. A Personal Data Card, the Self-Concept Clarity Scale, the Stunkard pictogram and the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test Instrument (AUDIT) were used. The analysis of the information is based on descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS software 22. Results: We found a significant correlation between alcohol consumption and the sexual uncertainty (r=.152, p=.041) as well as the and body image (r=.202, p=.006). Sexual uncertainty and perceived body image influence 4.9% of dependence on alcohol consumption, both has been predictors (p<.05). Conclusion: Sexual uncertainty and body image predict alcohol consumption in nursing students, it requires approach the measurement of other variables to deepen the consumption reasons.
