Relationship of Socio-Economic Profile to Academic Performance of High School Students in Lupao District, Nueva Ecija, Philippines

 
 
 

Abstract


The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between the Socio-Economic Profile and Academic Performance of High School Students in Lupao District, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Descriptive design was used in the conduct of this study. The researcher randomly selected 150 respondents (75 male and 75 female) from grade 9 and 122 respondents (61 male and 61 female ) from grade 10 students in Dona Juana Chioco National High School in Lupao Nueva Ecija. Data were collected using the questionnaire male and female respondents were mostly 14 years old in grades 9 and 10, and Roman Catholics. The fathers of the respondents were farmers and their mothers were housewives with an average income of P14,000 per month. The age of the male respondents exhibited a negative correlation with the grades in English1, Science2, Science3, Technology and Livelihood Education 1 (TLE 1), TLE2, TLE3, and Social Science3. Female respondents age also shows a negative correlation with their grades in English, Science. TLE in all three grading periods and Social Science in the third grading. The grade level of the male respondents exhibits a negative correlation with the grade in Math in the third grading. On the other hand, a positive correlation was shown between the grade level of male respondents and the grade in TLE and the grade level of female respondents and grades in English123, Science123, TLE123, and Social Science3. The religion of the male respondents was found to have a positive and significant correlation with the grades in English123, Math123, Science2, and TLE2. Fathers occupation of male respondents exhibited a positive and significant correlation with the grade in English 3 and Social Science 13. Mothers occupation of the male and female respondents shows a positive and significant correlation with almost all of the grades of the respondents. The monthly income of the male respondents was found to have a positive and significant correlation with the grades in Science1, Math1, TLE23, and Social Science3. Moreover, all the grades of the female respondents show a positive and highly significant correlation with all the subjects.
