The role of organizational commitment on job burnout through mediation of a sense of humor among teachers

 
 
 

Abstract


Job burnout is a main factor in reducing efficiency and losing human resources and has negative effects on individuals, family, and social dimensions. The present study aimed to investigate the role of organizational commitment on job burnout through the mediating of humor among teachers. This study was conducted as a descriptive correlational study. The research sample consisted of 213 elementary, middle school and high school teachers in the city of Mashhad in 2019, selected by using multistage cluster sampling. Subjects completed Maslach Burnout Scale, Organizational Commitment Scale, and Coping Humor Scale. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlational and structural equation modeling. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between organizational commitment and job burnout. Also, humor was significantly negatively related to job burnout. Besides, the path of organizational commitment to job burnout mediated by humor was significant. According to findings, humor can play a mediating role between organizational commitment and job burnout among teachers. Therefore, it is suggested to increase humor and promote organizational commitment to prevent burnout among teachers.
