Escravidão contemporânea no sudoeste baiano: relações trabalhistas de privação de liberdade à luz da constituição cidadã

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the complexity of slave labor in the municipalities that make up the identity territory of Southwestern Bahia, in the state of Bahia, Northeast Brazil. In this scenario, it was intended to understand how the labor relations of exploitation and deprivation of liberty in the regional context persist in view of the workers’ fundamental rights and guarantees provided by the Federal Constitution of 1988. For this purpose, the study is based, from an explanatory and documentary construction, in the qualitative analysis of the statistical records and reports of the Digital Observatory for the Eradication of Slave Labor and Human Trafficking and the Public Ministry of Labor in Bahia (MPTBA), as well as the legislative and doctrinal documents that are pertinent to the theme. In addition, the research uses the observational method. Ultimately, it highlights the urgency with which contemporary slavery must be combated and eradicated in the Southwestern Bahia, as a way of guaranteeing the dignity of the population and the effective valorization of work in the locality.
