Decentralisation of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation- a review of outcomes and experiences in developing a service in Remote Australia
Abstract
The introduction of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) has\ntransformed interventional cardiology and minimally invasive cardiac\nsurgery. TAVI is a relatively new technique that is rapidly expanding in\nits indications and technology as well as places of practice.\nDe-centralisation of this previous supra-specialised procedure can be\ndone safely and efficaciously, to improve the health inequalities across\nregional and remote Australia. The purpose of this study is to detail\nthe introduction of the TAVI program at a geographically isolated\ntertiary hospital in regional Australia. Illustrating the safe\nintroduction of TAVI in this location may guide other isolated hospitals\non the introduction of the service.
