A CMOS-Compatible Solution for Propagation Channels on Silicon in the mm-Wave Band
Abstract
This paper presents measurements of integrated antennas and propagation channels on silicon in the mm-wave band. These antennas were designed for a Wireless Interconnects Network-on-Chip (WiNoC) application. First, we present in the literature review the problems and constraints of integrated antennas and channels on silicon. Then, we highlight these problems through measurements of a manufactured prototype in V band (40-75 GHz). Second, we present the design of a solution to these problems, based on the addition of an absorbing layer without modifying the CMOS architecture, and we evaluate the improvement obtained through measurements on a second prototype in Q-band (33-50 GHz). Finally, we propose perspectives in order to improve the transmission on integrated circuits and to prove the feasibility of the wireless network on chip using integrated antennas.
