Design of 94-GHz Wideband Waveguide-Feed Patch Antenna and Array in eWLB Package

 
 

Abstract


This paper presents a 94-GHz wideband waveguide-feed patch antenna and array in embedded wafer level ball grid array (eWLB) package. Patch antenna in package is firstly designed, then of 1×4 antenna array. For antenna testing convenience, waveguide feeding other than probe one is utilized in this work. The transition from chip to waveguide for full W- band is proposed. Broadband impedance matching is realized by properly designing transmission line, E-plane probe on PCB, and back-short. The layout of antenna, package, board, and waveguide is necessary considered since the radiation pattern is affected by the feeding network. The results show that the proposed Waveguide-feed antenna can pave the way to radio image application.
