Abstract

The famous inscription of the oracle of Delphi know thyself is present throughout the history of philosophical thought and Christian spirituality. In Thanks to Origen , Gregory Thaumaturgus presents the master as a true philosopher. As he learned from the master, the excellence of philosophy is found in the realization of the oracular saying: know thyself . This article intends to develop this aspect of the spiritual itinerary of Origen from passages of his Commentary on the Canticle of Canticles, in which self-knowledge is placed in the recognition of being created in the image and likeness of God (ontological field) and in the knowledge of the dispositions of the soul (ethical field).
