A Study on the Machine Translation of Chinese-English Legislation--Taking Google Translator as an Example

Abstract

With the further advance of globalization, the communication between countries is becoming more and more frequent, which poses a higher challenge to the quality, quantity and efficiency of translation. Machine translation thusly came into being. Although it became one of the popular research directions, the quality of Machine Translation (hereafter MT) is still far from people s expectations. This paper is a case study of Google translation in C-E legal translation. The main purpose of this study is to determine whether it is possible to help the translator to improve the efficiency and accuracy of legal translation. The study takes the Contract Law of P.R. China as example to testify Google translator.
