Colors and Sounds in the Masque of the Red Death

Abstract

The Masque of the Red Death is one of Edgar Allen Poe’s famous short stories. The whole story is permeated with horror and tension, and Poe uses a lot of color and sound elements for rendering. In the story, the discordant arrangement of the chamber colors and regular chimes are the focus of all horrors throughout the story, the space for the reader’s imagination as well as the sign of Poe’s unique and bold artistic treatment.
