La vida doble de las mujeres en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires

Abstract

The approaches to conceptualize the gender category refer to the social and cultural constructions of the processes of differentiation, domination and subordination between men and women, emphasizing the notion of multiplicity of identities. The feminine and the masculine are formed from a mutual, cultural and historical relationship. It does not refer to the sex of the individuals, but to the behaviors considered feminine or masculine. In the area of family studies, the gender perspective questioned the idea that the domestic world is something exclusive to women. The article quantifies the time of unpaid intra-household work carried out by women and compares it with that destined to paid work and other activities that take place in one day. The empirical information comes from the results of the Survey on the Use of Time in the City of Buenos Aires 2016. The evidence is overwhelming and confirms the inequality in the time spent by men and women in unpaid work and the intensity of their use of time.
