Abstract

The water scarcity has been growing gradually over the years and this increase leaves the country with a warning sign for future generations. The current focus is on reducing consumption, however, one way of solution is the desalination, offering other sources that allow universal water consumption. This research sought to identify the viability of Graphene membranes, for water desalination. For this purpose, a quantitative exploratory research was used, with the purpose of verifying the effectiveness of the existing processes and the economic viability of the processes found, observing their efficiency. With the current technology, the environmental impacts and the economic environment, Ceteris Paribus, it is possible to affirm that for Brazil it would be important to invest in a water security system and desalinators an amount of approximately R$ 27.5 billion, which would reduce the water hazards and economics risks due to scarcity. The development of technology in graphene can reach a cost of US $0.30 per 1000 gallons, creating a real development opportunity for regions in the Brazilian semiarid region.
