Síndrome de Muerte Súbita Infantil (SMSI) desde una óptica patólogo-forense

Abstract

RESUMEN Existen numerosas definiciones del sindrome de muerte subita infantil, relacionandose algunas de ellas con la medicina legal por la posible sospecha de criminalidad. Objetivo: actualizar los conocimientos sobre el sindrome de muerte subita infantil para contribuir a un mejor manejo de aquellos casos que se presenten en la ciudad y mejorar la calidad del diagnostico asi como la conducta a seguir; se realizo una revision de la literatura y revision documental relacionada con el tema; se analizaron los expedientes tanatologicos de algunas de las autopsias realizadas en el Instituto de Medicina Legal en el periodo comprendido 2016-2017 que pudieran corresponderse con este sindrome; igualmente, se recopilo una serie de aspectos en cuanto a las definiciones del sindrome, la epidemiologia y la metodologia que se debe seguir en las necropsias medico legales de estos casos; se concluyo que el diagnostico de este sindrome y el cumplimiento de la metodologia para la realizacion de la necropsia medico legal y la diligencia de levantamiento de cadaver contribuyen al auxilio de la administracion de justicia en aquellos casos donde se demuestre la existencia del sindrome como causa de muerte y la ausencia de responsabilidad penal. SUMMARY There are numerous definitions of sudden infant death syndrome, some of them being related to legal medicine due to the possible suspicion of criminality. Objective: to update the knowledge about sudden infant death syndrome to contribute to a better management of those cases that occur in the city and to improve the quality of the diagnosis as well as the behavior to be followed; a review of the literature review related to the subject was carried out; the thanatological files of some of the autopsies performed at the Institute of Legal Medicine in the period 2016-2017 that could correspond to this syndrome were analyzed; likewise, a series of aspects were compiled regarding the definitions of the syndrome, the epidemiology and the methodology to be followed in the medicolegal autopsies of these cases; it was concluded that the diagnosis of this syndrome and compliance with the methodology for carrying out the medical-legal necropsy and the removal of the corpse contribute to the aid of the administration of justice in those cases where the existence of the syndrome is demonstrated as a cause of death and the absence of criminal responsibility.
