Abstract

This research article contributes to thestudy of Santiago de Cuba’s short storyfrom the colonial perioduntil today. This isa zone pretermitted within the Cuban literary studies, generally focused, bythe literary historiography,from a havanocentristperspective.The content analysis and the historiographic approachallows to elucidate authors, texts and mainaesthetics that distinguishthe process oforigin, development and consolidation of thisliterary genrein three periods: the colonial,neo-colonial/republican and revolutionary. The basicsthat characterizethis writing practice inthe regioncanestablish counterpointswith the ideo-aesthetics experiences of the genre in Cuba and Latin America.
